Today is a very special day around our house!! My dear little girl, Miss Poppins, turns 14 years old today!! ~sniff~ ~sniff~ Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday that I was holding a not so tiny baby with a head full of dark hair all curled up against me. Now I see this very-much-like-me teenage girl full of pizzazz
and exuberance with a flair for the dramatic. Miss Poppins doesn't do anything half way. She's an all or nothing kind of girl... and she knows what she likes! Don't worry about her being indecisive... no, no, no! Not her! She loves all things fancy, dressy, and in bold color. She can sing an operatic vibrato with the best of them and she adores Broadway show
tunes and musicals. She is a passionate and accomplished piano player but is not a big fan of Algebra. She loves Eeyore and roller coasters, Julie Andrews and anything from the 1950's, boiled peanuts and purses, and let's not forget super pointy toed pumps. Her fingernails and toenails must always be manicured and have matching polish... even in the winter when no one can see her toes. But, that glitz and girliness doesn't stop her from tree climbing and playing tag with all the church children on Sunday afternoons. She loves to make up secret codes and send her
friends letters written in her own secret message language. Who has patience for that? Miss Poppins, of course! She has also named all forty
of her future children dozens of times... for the sake of my dear grandchildren, I hope her penchant for the unusual tones itself down before then... for their sakes! She appreciates fine dining and can't wait to go
to our favorite Mexican restaurant tonight so she can wear the birthday sombrero and hear "Happy Birthday" sung in Spanish!
All that I could say about Miss Poppins would take volumes
and volumes of blog posts. Suffice it to say that she is our pride and joy, a delightful daughter, and a Proverbs 31 woman in the making. She has a deep committed walk with her Savior and seeks His will in her daily life. She is a lover of babies and is joyfully looking forward to being the mother of many herself. She loves to knit and has already made her own dear babies several things and tucked them away in her hope
chest. What a blessing this girl is to her family and to all who know her!
I would say let the birthday celebration begin, but as is
usual in our family, the birthday celebration has been ongoing for several days now! She has already had dinners at two fine restaurants, already received a pair of fabulous pointy
toed pumps, already been purse shopping, already received multiple gifts from grandparents, friends, and family and already had an extra special outing with her Nana. What else is there to do? Quite a bit, if you ask Miss Poppins!! The big finale will be this evening and we are all anticipating and excited about that! We love you, Miss Poppins! Feliz Cupleaños! (and don't forget to wear your hair down... sombreros are quite destructive to the 'up-do'!)
At the joyful age of three!
Flibby and Miss Poppins sporting new bicycles for Christmas!
Isn't that the happiest face you've ever seen?
Little Miss Personality! And, she still is!
