Works for me Wednesday!

This week our Works for me Wednesday theme is birthdays! I thought I'd share what we did for Hannah Banana's 7th birthday this past winter. It was a simple and inexpensive party but is still being reenacted and talked about some five months later!

We had a Baking Birthday party for all Hannah Banana's friends and family! For the party favors, we handmade aprons that each girl took home and I ordered - for $1.00 each - little wooden rolling pins which we used during the party and let the girls take them home. My older girls also knitted each little girl a dishcloth that they could take home and use with Mommy when helping in the kitchen along with a recipe card containing the recipe for the cookies we made during the party. The favors were very inexpensive but had quite the "WOW" factor!

For the party itself, we started with having the girls cut out pictures of food from old magazines and glue them onto paper. The top of the paper had the Scripture "She rises also while it is still night and gives food to her household, and portions to her maidens." Proverbs 31:15 That was something else the girls were able to take home with them. We then baked sugar cookies. I had all the ingredients in separate little dishes and let each girl take turns pouring in an ingredient. We all took turns mixing the dough. They each had their own portion of dough and their individual rolling pins to roll it out then they used various cookie cutters and sprinkles to decorate the masterpieces. We baked them and had the cookies as our party food when they were done. After a good round of singing "Happy Birthday", opening presents and playing our party day was complete!

The total cost of this party was less than $50.00! It works for us!

Fantastic party idea! But I'd get stuck on the sewing aprons part. That would take me weeks and weeks and then I'd not even want to do the party by the time I was finished. But clever, cute and fun!

My daughter and I are currently online looking for ideas to plan her birthday celebration...also age 7. We already discussed our plans for a baking/cooking party when we stumbled onto your sight during a google search. We love the craft as you integrate it with scripture. The aprons are absolutely adorable!

We also homeschool and what a delight to hear your suggestions...God's timing is perfect! Thanks for sharing and God Bless You and your family!!
